Replacement, Restoration, Return

We are going back to Finland!

Only for six months, but still.

It feels like a restoration. A return. Never mind that one of us has never lived in Finland, only visited, and another one is born and raised in America without any Finnish roots at all.

If you are reading this blog, chances are that you know me. So you may know that I have lived in the US for 17 years plus some months (except that one year in Namibia). This here, happening now, is a sabbatical journey for six months, thanks to my husband's college. He is supposed to research something obscure and I and the child are tagging along. The child will go to school and I will do other things, some yet to be determined.

However, the real reason for going to Finland is to eat ice cream, chocolate, pastries and salty licorice. Also: we are going to brush up our Finnish, and we are going to see what life in Finland could be like for our family.

No matter. We're going.

This blog is an attempt to convey what our life is like in Finland to those of our friends who never have lived there and who might miss us. Enjoy!
